Jessica Smith, M.A., LPC Intern
I believe that change occurs best in an authentic client, therapist relationship. Alongside you, I will work to create a friendly, caring environment from which you can feel safe to explore and express yourself without fear of judgement. Through this relationship I believe you will feel free to go into the world more joyous and alive. My goal as your therapist will be for you to better connect to others in relationships as well as express yourself, your needs and your feelings. Let’s find your voice and your key to happiness, together!
You may be skeptical or uncertain about seeing a therapist, as it can be a difficult decision. Perhaps you find yourself in a broken marriage or you have a teenager and you fell helpless watching their struggle during these difficult years. Sometimes, periods of transition can feel overwhelming and talking to a therapist can give you an objective perspective. You may be experiencing some out of the blue anxiety or sadness, or dealing with long standing patterns you find frustrating and unhealthy. Whatever your situation, therapy is one viable option, and serves as a source of growth and relief for many people. Whether you are seeking short term or long term counseling, the relationship between therapist and client is indicated to be the biggest determining factor for successful therapy.
I believe therapy should be a collaborative experience whereby the therapist respects the abilities and experience of the client while also respectfully attempting to stretch their patterns of thinking and behavior opening the door for a life more rich and satisfying. I will never just sit there and nod my head or ask you how that makes you feel repeatedly while offering no suggestions. Nope, that is definitely not my style.
I am here to help you walk through your journey. We will figure out what is making you unhappy and come up with ideas to change your circumstances. I will be there to help nudge you in the right direction. Sometimes, it is hard to know what is right. I find that talking about it with a therapist is the best way to figure it all out because my only goal is to help you find peace and happiness; that is what makes the therapist client relationship so special! I am there for you and only you. I want you to find relief and there is really nothing better than watching someone like you tackle fears, make positive changes and start to experience more good days than bad ones!
